Jason Whitehead has served as the director of evangelization and catechesis for the Diocese of Fort Worth since 2022, and sees his position as a duty “to proclaim the Gospel, teach the faith, and pray and work for vocations.”
Jason has oversight of diocesan religious education, sacramental preparation, and OCIA, and includes managing the youth, respect life, marriage and family life, and Hispanic ministries. He also directs the St. Junipero Serra Institute which offers courses to parish ministry and/or personal faith formation.
Jason’s conversion story is one that includes growing up Methodist in rural New York. After moving to Texas, he felt the call to pursue a life as an ordained Baptist minister through his studies at the Baptist Bible College and Seminary. It was through his studies of the Church Fathers’ writings, that he was led to embrace the Catholic Church as the one true Church established by Christ, and Jason was received into the Church at Holy Family Parish in 2012.
Jason earned a Master of Arts degree in moral theology from Holy Apostles Seminary in Cromwell, Connecticut. Prior to his current position, he worked as RCIA coordinator at St. Patrick Cathedral, followed by the position of assistant director of evangelization and catechesis, then director of faith formation.
Through his work in the diocese he is “very much committed to keeping intact what the Church calls the deposit of faith. We strive to hand that faith on whole and entire, and in its purity, without minimizing it or watering it down.”
Information was sourced from North Texas Catholic articles and the Diocese of Fort Worth website.
