In 1997, Pope Saint John Paul II instituted a day of prayer for women and men in consecrated life. This celebration is attached to the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord on February 2nd. This Feast is also known as Candlemas Day; the day on which candles are blessed symbolizing Christ who is the light of the world. So too, those in consecrated life are called to reflect the light of Jesus Christ to all peoples. The celebration of World Day for Consecrated Life is transferred to the following Sunday in order to highlight the gift of consecrated persons for the whole Church. The Vocations Committee of Serra Club of Fort Worth forms and supports parish vocations committees. In addition to hosting Parish Vocations Workshops, we develop resources for parishes, including General Intercessions, bulletin announcements, vocations cross programs, and materials for Catholic schools and religious education programs. We work with pastors to arrange presentations of recognition certificates to all altar servers in the parish.
The Vocations Committee also promotes recurring annual events, such as World Day of Prayer for Vocations, Vocations Awareness Week and Priesthood Sunday.
In support of the Diocese of Fort Worth Vocations Office, we promote vocations discernment events, such as St. Andrew Breakfasts and Suppesr, Quo Vadis, Come and See, and Vocations Awareness Program (VAP) weekend.
With the club chaplain, the Vocations Committee coordinates monthly Holy Hour for Vocations and arranges for parishes to use the St. John Paul II Vocations Monstrance when it travels to our Diocese.
